And then it was Spring!

Spring in Maine is like a box of choc....

Nah, I won't finish that thought, but there is something to be said for the unpredictable nature and wild mood swings of my favorite state. It guarantees that every day will be a surprise.

Last week at this time, we had no electricity and 40 mph winds. Today, it's all blue skies, gentle breezes and 60 degrees. It's the kind of weather that makes you feel like you're in an upbeat musical number.

Even though we're still at peril for frost, I think we've seen the last of the snow for a while and that means it's time to get going with this whole garden deal. There's rye grass to turn under and peas to plant and I will have a new foundation for the coldframe, if it's the last thing I do. First though, there is the raking. I've started to remove all of last years mulch which is kind of like opening a surprise present from your sister with the twisted sense of humor. You never know what is lurking under stuff.

Take the garlic for example. I was surprised to see how much it had already grown under its blanket of straw. Sadly, there's no sign of the asparagus or the shallots yet, but I'm still hoping.

In the meantime, it's back outside for me because there's a lot of work to be done. Yipee!
