Turn your attention, if you would please, to exhibit A. This photo of a mostly snow-free garden was taken on April 3. Sure it was chilly. Sure it was raining. Chilly and raining is almost barbecue weather for crying out loud. How can a Maine gardener not get excited about a day like this? I did and it was a suckers bet.
In 48 hours, my almost spring garden went from browns and greens to solid white. As you can see from exhibit B, taken this morning, this is why April gardening outside in Maine is for suckers. The forecast called for 3 to 6 inches. There's a good foot of snow now covering everything and here I was considering taking the mulch off of stuff. On the bright side, I've got a ton of seedlings poking their heads up from the flats I planted. Of course, George the Cat is prowling around the base of the grow shelves, trying to decide if hopping up and helping himself to tender plants is worth the hassle of getting squirted with the plant mister.
At least the dog is enjoying himself.

Wonderful post. I've so enjoyed your blog, but have never left a comment. I've been inspired to start one of my own, in part from how much I have enjoyed yours. Visit me if you'd like: http://civildiscourse.typepad.com/inthegarden/
Aw, see? That's not even fair! You didn't get ANY snow.
Thanks for the wonderful comment and your blog is just great. Lots of wonderful photos. If my garden can't be green, at least I can be with the envy over yours! :)
