They say that when you make resolutions, you have a better chance of keeping them if you can be specific and keep them simple. Rather than saying you're going to work out, resolve to do 10 situps a day. In that spirit, here are my 9 garden resolutions for 2009:
1. I'm going to turn the compost once a month.
2. I'm going to install 6 new raised beds for vegetables.
3. I'm going to plant a new asparagus bed.
4. I'm going to get my seed order in at the start of March.
5. I'm going to get the peppers started by the end of March.
6. I'm going to check the viability of seeds I have before I order new seeds.
7. I'm going to order and plant 6 bulbs of German Extra Hardy garlic and 3 of some new variety.
8. I'm going to make time to weed once a week.
9. I'm going to plant my winter vegetables by September so they get time to grow.

Best wishes with your 2009 garden!
You are showing admirable self-control! I've already ordered and received my seeds from Johnny's! Now I just need to enlist my husband to build some more raised beds......

Hey Janice- Happy New Year and may your garden grow abundantly too!
Kristin - It's been so hard! I've been testing my old seeds though in hopes that I can save some cash by not having to buy new seeds for some of the veggies. What did you get from Johnny's?
Umm - a lot! Way more than I have room for! Snap peas, pole beans, shelling peas, a greens mix (elegance), red butterhead lettuce, cabbage(which I've never grown before), three varieties of tomatoes, bunching onions, cucumbers, some herbs, and a few flower seeds. Oh, and some baby bear pumpkins.
But wait! I still have lots of seeds left from last year, too! I really want to expand the garden this year, just have to convince the hubster that digging up the yard some more would be a good thing.
After some limited success with the GPE last year, I'm going to try potatoes again, and plant them earlier this year. I'm going with Adirondack Blue this year. I think the kids will get a kick out of blue potatoes (and so will I). I also have some raspberry canes coming in the spring. I think I'll have a busy spring playing in the dirt.
Have you made your final seed list?
Kristin
